Besides the fact that the app doesn't seem to support landscape mode when creating a post, it's a very neatly put together for regular users. Still seems like there are some ridiculous issues though. This is just one that really bugs me. Bit of a rant to test the app really.

I have to enable location services in order to post multiple images and the app leads me to believe that I can do it from within the app. Find the right images? I can't seem to figure out how to separate images with text, or add captions to images, so good luck.

Anyway, after enabling location services and trying to put a few images together, I realized I was at a friend's house and he doesn't particularly like me using any location based services while visiting. Now, try switch off location services and I can't. I have multiple images you see.

This annoys me more than I'd like to admit and largely because I think I should be able to add multiple images and decide to not share my location.

What makes it worse is that when I hit "off" it seems to have worked and switch it off. But navigate away and return AND it's back on.

      Fucking Annoying.

      Smart Phones & Stupid People

I started realizing that I was becoming incredibly rude with some people. Switching attention from them to my smart phone, sometimes even when the other person is mid-sentence. A few visits to your mom's house (not your mom, mine), will quickly put things back into perspective. I don't know if my mother even realized it, but the fact that I couldn't get away with just looking at my phone suddenly while she's talking to me, helped me to realize what I was getting away during other converstations. That, and my friend Ryno started calling me a douche when I did it.

So I started thinking about it more and ended up giving a short talk abou it and some other interesting things I found along the way.

Oh, and shot Dylan for reminding me that I should be updating shit more, been a very long time since I've even thought about what I do online. Where you find the time to keep http://ctrlclick.tumblr.com/ so awesome I'll never know.

Riots in London, all allegedily because a member of the public got shot by the police. When I switched on the news this morning I couldn't believe what I was seeing, especially considering my brother and his wife just moved over to the UK. (Seems like the worst timing ever hey Andy?)

Truth is that the guy was a known drug dealer and most of the chaos has been caused by people taking advantage of the situation.

      The 2011 Web Analytics Review

Data is our generation's new oil, that's one of the reasons why I think that analytics are so important. I want to know as much as I can, while being able to ensure that my data is private. Bit of a hypocrite stance to take, but people have been guilty of far worse and led happy lives, so I'm not too worried. Google (I don't believe I have to link that for you) provided the data & KISSmetrics made it digestible in the following info-graphic.. "Hundreds of thousands of websites across the globe have participated.." doesn't mean it's the ultimate collection of data, but it's still a pretty nice big chunk from probably the biggest source we have easily accessible.

The end of the year is approaching and looking back, I regret not covering more of it online and posting more often. So much has happened & I'm thankful for presentations like this that provide a bit of retrospective insight  and help me learn from what's worked this year.

For more of what the local industry is up to, my preferred site is 10and5 - They always manage to keep tabs of the best local creative stuff going on and there's often a lively debate caused by the things they spot. (My current favourite post to watch about retailers ripping off designs.)

I've joined an independent project with a friend of mine & as most worthwhile projects do, it's surprised us along the way. Soon as we've got our beta, I'll share it here.

Tomorrow, or actually in a couple of hours, we're going to spend time with some design students at the CPUT for a session to have a look at one of our web components. While putting together our own user centered design process, we found a presentation that nicely summarizes most of the well known methodologies for user experience testing.

Infographic on How Google Works. (Nice & Simple)

This is a really useful infographic that explains how Google works. I used it recently to explain some basic concepts to a client and the result was fantastic.

Almost everyone I know has at some stage grabbed a piece of paper and said, "Let me show you." I think if you've got something worthwhile to explain, then a short time investment with a designer to make sense of your hand scribbles is well worth it. Even President Obama is using infographics to explain things.

I spend a lot of my time working for the interests of brands online. I know quite a few people that actually spend considerable amounts of time trying to figure out how to create an interaction that you (the target) could believably want to have with a brand. That's why this example of social media in action is so much better than any brand campaign.

Defaulterror is a mate of mine who I used to work with at Bottomline Interactive & his twitter stream is usually just full of boasting about cool concerts he gets to go to (punk just got tickets to Cypress Hill). Yesterday, he shared something that I thought deserved some more attention.

We do amazingly complicated things everyday, with incredibly simple interfaces. Sometimes I meet someone through a family member or a friend who has absolutely no idea that the industry I work in even exists. It's refreshing, but also scary, when you realize that there are folks out there who can remember how hard it was to communicate once upon a time.

On to the reason for this post, I got an email from my mother this morning (it's a regular occurrence now), something along the lines of..

Do you have any idea what this is?

I was born in 1982 & remember playing in the park a lot.
    Sometime after that I matriculated.

I have a colourful history, which is too long to detail here. I've been 'working' as a real grown up for over 6 years now. First in below the line advertising as a copywriter and now... Well, now it's a little bit more interesting and the lines are completely blurred.
